Sarah Suplina Paper Artist and Art Teacher on Trendy Art Ideas
Artist and Art Instructor, Sarah Suplina, explores the combination of watercolor paper and layers of newspaper to create intricate, detailed collages. Sarah loves to work with subjects of nature including birds, florals and landscapes. Sarah explains, "I utilise watercolor paper because I can paint unique color variations and surprises. The 300 pound paper likewise allows for wonderful paper manipulation". Her unique way has been developed over years of experimentation and she is too a graduate of Pratt Institute in New York. Every bit a published creative person and fellow member of the International Paper Artist Collective, Sarah is well known in the world of paper art. "Tiger Bird", 2022. Inspired by the Chinese Year of the Tiger, I explored the theme of tigers in nature. This handsome guy is called a Tiger Bird, or the Rufous Treepie. I love the final colour palette of this slice with the neutral colors of the Tiger bird and lush greens. Hand painted paper, hand cutting and assembled.
"Tiger Shrike", 2022. Inspired by the Chinese Yr of the Tiger, I explored the theme of tigers in nature and I just vicious in love with this little bird. I was very happy with how the fern vegetation came out likewise. The watercolor paper really shows beautiful color variations. Handpainted, hand cut and assembled.
"Desert Oasis", 2018. I created this piece after a trip to Arizona where I was fully inspired past all the gorgeous cacti. This piece was created with mitt painted, hand cut and assembled newspaper. Sold to a private collector.
"Beach Drove, 2019. Inspired by warm, lazy embankment days, I love all the details and layers of this slice. The cutting and details took quite some time and this is one of my personal favorites. Creative person Collection.
"Blue Thistle", 2021. Inspired by the prickly but pretty blue Thistle, I wanted to create a piece that really showed off this sharp beauty. Created with hand painted newspaper, mitt cut and assembled – each piddling piece! This beauty has been sold to a private collector.
"Woodhen", 2021. This was a beloved commission slice that really shows the perfect marriage of watercolor paper and cut layers. The subtle fall colors and the sweetness Hen's face make for one of my favorite pieces. Sold to a private collector.
